Requirements:   

High school education or GED required.  Previous CSS experience desirable.

National certification preferred, and required within first year of employment.

 

Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies. 

 

Working Relationships:   

The CSS Technician is responsible to the unit manager and/or director of area.  Is in daily contact with co-workers, managers, and other health care team members including vendor representatives.

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. floor to waist and 35 lbs. to overhead.  Must be able to push/pull using up to 40 lbs. of force.  Must be able to stand/walk continuously and sit occasionally.  Must be able to crouch/squat, kneel occasionally. Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. less than 10 feet.  Must be able to continuously reach and rotate trunk.  Must be able to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, and perform tasks which require hand eye coordination and arm hand steadiness.  Must be able to visually discriminate far away and close objects and colors, and hear and distinguish normal sounds.  May be exposed to blood, body tissues, fluids, hazardous waste materials, chemicals, high/low temperatures, toxins, cytotoxins, poisonous substances, electrical hazards, and burns.
