JOB SUMMARY: 
 
Provides health care services applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment.  Performs Radiological Procedures and related techniques producing images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner.
 
Essential Functions:
  1. Communication/ Guest Relations
    Complies a comprehensive patient assessment on patients of all ages.
    Obtains pertinent medical history from patient by observation or with oral communication.
    Performs patient assessment to determine the following:
                        1.)  Patient’s physical ability to undergo the imaging procedure as needed.
                        2.)  What patient care is needed during the procedure.
                        3.)  What modification of the procedure may be required by the age of the patient.
                        4.)  If there are contraindications to performing the procedure as ordered.
    Ensures that communication supports the plan of patient care.
    Communicates clearly with patients of all ages, peers, and others in order to complete the clinic plan of patient care.
    Notifies the patient’s attending physician or radiologist of any patient issues that affect the plan of patient care as directed within the time frames identified in the radiology policy manual.
    Provides education for patients, self and others appropriated for age being served.
    Pursues educational self-development in order to maintain Arkansas State Licensure.
    Completes mandatory inservices.
    Maintains CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider level standard of the American Heart Association.
    Attends monthly department meeting.
     
  2. Information Management
    Utilized patient clinical assessment and clinical history in making professional judgment that supports the plan of patient care and properly documents patient assessment and clinical history.
    Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics.
    Uses immobilizing devices as required by the patient’s age, condition or the procedure as determined by patient assessment.
    Performs the procedure as ordered
    Modifies procedure as required through knowledge gained by patient assessment without compromising diagnostic or therapeutic outcome.
     
  3. Policy and Procedure
    Maintains a safe environment for patients, self and others
    Documents patient pregnancy statements and notifies attending physician immediately if patient is pregnant or suspects pregnancy before performing the procedure.
    Modifies the procedure for pregnant patients as directed by physician using radiology safety manual guidelines to include the use of lead shielding and/or performing different or fewer images that still support the patient care plan.
    Avoid any mechanical, biological, radiation or electrical hazard and report potential hazards immediately.
     
  4. Technical Skills
    Performs appropriate imaging procedures and patient care for patients of all ages.
    Provides appropriate patient care conditions essential for completion of the procedure for patient of all ages.
    Performs radiological procedures on patients of all ages properly, according to the radiology procedure manual standard obtaining diagnostic images.
    Safely transports wheelchair, stretcher and ambulatory patients as needed.
    Performs clerical tasks to support the patient plan of care.
    Assists the radiologist within the radiographer’s scope of practice as directed by the physician.
    Reviews completed procedure images to assure the image technical standards are met.  Verifies that procedure charges have been correctly made and reviews physician’s orders corresponds with the printed order on the exam request.
     
     
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education:  High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
 
Experience:  One year experience as a Licensed X-Ray Technician
 
Physical Requirements: 
 
Skills:  Able to use complex medical imaging equipment, computers.  Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and readily adapts to rapidly changing events in the Radiographic environment.
 
PRIMARY CUSTOMERS:  Patients, families, physicians, employees and vendors
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  Radiologists, Physicians, Technical Supervisor, Clinic Director
 
Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient or other highly sensitive business information and must comply with the terms of SVHS/CHI Policies as they apply to their job role.
