Scheduled Hours per 2 week Pay Period: 48 (7p-7a) 


JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the admission of the patient to the hospital when the patient is admitted through the Emergency Department.  Assists with the collection of data from the Emergency Services patient and their family, contacting ancillary staff as needed, making transfer arrangements, and ordering and maintaining office supplies.  Responsible for assisting with collection and input of data as needed for QI.  Works closely with the patients, patient families, physician offices and the financial/clinical departments to ensure accurate data capture and customer service.  Locations for data capture include the Business Office, and bedside registration and inpatient admissions.  The Support Associate operates the hospital switchboard, maintains a cash drawer for patient payments / internal cashier and is the center of communication for the hospital.

  • Demonstrates professional attitude and interest in work by maintaining acceptable work habits and behavior.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all clerical duties in the emergency department

  • Performs key duties accurately, efficiently and effectively – obtaining patient demographic information, keying demographic information into our health information system, assigning patient account numbers, obtaining signatures on all required documents, welcoming and directing all visitors, assuming the communication center responsibilities during emergency situations, cashiering, maintaining accurate patient demographic information throughout the stay such as room transfers/level of care transfers/attending physician changes/discharges, administering Medicaid presumptive eligibility, validating insurance information via insurance websites or Medicaid phone eligibility and coordinating incoming switchboard calls. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of use of computer, fax/copier, telephone, pre-hospital radio, fire alarm panel.

  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly admit the patient to the hospital.

  • Demonstrates the ability to function calmly and efficiently as the communication center.

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient, family members, and employees.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability in the collection of data as needed for quality improvement.

  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to remain emotionally resilient and composed in a highly stressful environment

  • Able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English
  • Operates a computer efficiently

  • Able to establish work priorities and multi-task well
  • A well-organized, independent decision maker 
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. 

EXPERIENCE: Experience within healthcare field, basic medical language and basic computer knowledge required. 


LICENSURE: BLS certification required.
