 To serve the patients, families and employees good tasting, nutritious and safe food that promotes health and healing to the body. The employee working in this position performs a variety of tasks. Sets up trays for the hospital patients following posted menus requests from the patient room service program, taking individual likes and dislikes into account. Collecting dirty trays and dishes from the patient care areas and cleaning dishes in an automatic dish washer and returning these dishes in the proper storage areas. Is responsible for the operation of the cafeteria at the noon meal service or responsible for the operation of the Cup of Joe café making coffee drinks and serving food to customers. Is responsible for the cleanliness of the work area, stocking and replacing food and paper supplies.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1.      Setting up trays for the hospital patients following posted menus and menus requests from the patient room service program, taking into account individual likes and dislikes. Meals are served accurately per patient preference, menu and special diet requirements and within 30 minutes of the patient request.

2.      Serves desserts, salads or juices ahead of the patient meal and cafeteria noon meal service.

3.      Prepares foods for snacks for patients to be served between the regular meal services.

4.      Is responsible for collecting dirty dishes from the floors and cleaning dishes in the automatic dish washer, returning the clean dishes to the proper storage areas.

5.      Is responsible for the cleanliness of the work area and the safe/sanitary handling of food equipment and supplies.

6.      Responsible for the operation of the cafeteria noon meal service, sets up the cold foods in the refrigerated display case. Greets customers and operates the cash register, makes change as necessary and provides service during the noon meal operation. Is responsible for the cleanliness of the cafeteria at the end of the meal service.

7.      Responsible for the operation of the Cup of Joe Café, makes espresso coffee drinks, smoothies and other beverages per customer request as well as serves food to the customers. Can operate a cash register and credit card machine and can cash out these machines at the end of the shift per policy and procedures.

8.      Demonstrates competence with the skills and techniques necessary to provide appropriate care to the age of the patients served in the Nutrition Service Area.

9.      Uses proper hand washing procedures in the food preparation area. Uses the proper hand washing techniques when serving trays to patients in the patient care areas- foams in when going into a room to deliver a tray and foams out with leaving the patient room

10.  Demonstrates familiarity with proper food handling to prevent cross contamination and food borne illnesses.

Demonstrates proper operation and cleaning of equipment used in the Nutrition Services area, cafeteria and café.

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

High School Diploma

Required Minimum Experience

1-3 Years

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Has worked in Healthcare, School or Commercial Food Service

PREFERRED Education and/or Experience

SERV SAFE Certification
