Works under the supervision of a Food Service Supervisor.  Provides optimal food service to patients, visitors, and employees in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of St. Alexius Medical Center.


What you’ll do:
  • Plans and prepares foods according to recipes and time schedules
  • Works as a team member in pre preparation, preparation, portioning, and storage of food
  • Exercises quality control, including portion sizes and temperature standards
  • Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation
  • Assists in food product evaluation, test trays, and environmental sanitation inspections

Education:                  Two-year Associates Degree in some aspect of institutional foodservice with one- year of food preparation experience.

Experience:                 Three years of institutional foodservice experience with the ability to read & write and follow oral & written instructions.  Some mathematics is also required.

Licensure:                   None

Skills:                          Ability to cook and bake institutionally from scratch.

Interpersonal Skills:   Relates well with staff, patients and visitors.  Maintains confidentiality.

Physical Effort:          Medium work level of up to 35 pounds.  Ability to move food, equipment and supplies horizontally and vertically or from place to place.  Majority of day is spent standing and moving about. 

Hours of Work:          Variable work hours.  Rotation of shifts, weekends and holidays required.

Exemption Status:      Non-Exempt

Other:             Works under the following conditions:  potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental or infectious hazards.
