POSITION PURPOSE:

The Financial Analyst – Campus Services contributes to the CHI Health vision and mission by performing financial analysis and planning support functions for the individual Metropolitan Campuses in concert with the Chief Financial Officers of the respective facilities.  Additionally, the position should promote an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of CHI Health.

  

ENVIRONMENT:

CHI Health is a not-for-profit umbrella corporation providing governance, administrative management and direction to all operations of Bergan Mercy Health System (sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives) and Immanuel Medical Center (Immanuel Health Systems).  These two health systems have consolidated operations while maintaining separate religious identities, financial assets and medical staffs.

 

Consolidated operations include five acute-care metropolitan hospitals located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area; three rural hospitals located in Missouri Valley and Corning, Iowa and in Schuyler, Nebraska; one long-term care facility located in Omaha; one ambulatory service facility at Lakeside in Omaha; minority owner of community hospital in Blair; home care programs serving the region; multiple metropolitan and rural health care clinics/offices; major programmatic initiatives in managed care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, senior services, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, women’s and children’s services, and oncology; and joint ventures with community partners in pediatrics and hospice.

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The incumbent reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer of the assigned Metropolitan Facility.  The incumbent works collaboratively with all members of the Accounting and Finance Team, and all other staff within the CHI System, as needed, to provide value-added counsel and financial support to the Organization.  This individual will work with external auditors and consultants in the areas of Accounting and Finance, as well as with other health care professionals, as needed.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing consultative support in the areas of financial analysis and planning for the Metropolitan Hospital Campuses, with emphasis on assigned operational areas.  In addition, provides analysis of system-wide functions (revenue cycle, supply chain, etc.) in support of the Campus Chief Financial Officers.

  • Facilitates communication and acts as a point of contact between managers at the assigned areas and members of the Accounting & Finance Department.

  • Provides advice, counsel, suggestions for operational improvement, support and accountability of financial operations to Campus leadership.

  • Responsible for the coordination and preparation of the routine Analytical Review of operational activity which is based on a sound financial analysis, including budget vs. actual comparisons as well as benchmarking, but also inSystems operational insight in close cooperation with the affected operational personnel.

  • Prepares cash flow, pro-forma financial, and transactional analyses and provides real-time financial input on decision making related to prospective operational ventures in coordination with Campus Leadership and the System Financial Analysis and Planning Department, as necessary. 

  • Assists system entities in forecasting financial needs, including pro forma financial statements, break-even analysis, cash flow projections, ratio analysis, cash planning, capital planning, resource utilization, and evaluation of financing alternatives, as needed.

  • Performs financial review of subsidiary financial statements with respect to financial stability, liquidity, and growth; prepares a monthly summary report which includes both a quantitative and qualitative summary of performance.

  • Participates in the creation of an instrument panel of key statistics, ratio and data for use by the Senior and Executive Leadership team.

  • In concert with the Planning function, providing support in the process of gathering the common statistics in an accurate/timely fashion in support of other financial, planning and operational activities and initiatives.

  • Maintains a professional attitude with patients, visitors and other system personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient and other financial information.

  • Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

 


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

A minimum of four years of financial analysis experience, with at least two years of significant experience in accounting or finance in a healthcare environment, or two years of work experience in public accounting/consulting to the health care field is preferred.   An understanding of healthcare reimbursement is preferred. 

 

Education/Licensure

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance is required.  A Master’s degree and/or a CPA license would be preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must possess a strong knowledge of Financial Management and Accounting Theory and Practice, with a thorough knowledge of applicable laws, guidelines and professional standards; a keen understanding of hospital and other general health care operations; working knowledge of third-party reimbursement practices for hospitals as well as physicians; good computer understanding and skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Must demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation and energy; team orientation; professionalism; trust; personal honesty and integrity; and demonstrate an appreciation of the high value of others, as well as an attitude of dignity and respect toward other.
